Dental Veneers At Sunshine Dental

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are placed over the front surfaces of the teeth, giving them a clean, even, and natural appearance. With the ability to change the color and shape of your teeth, veneers are a less intrusive option than crowns and provide great aesthetic results.

What Are The Different Kinds Of Dental Veneers?

Porcelain Veneers have a life-like appearance, mimicking your natural teeth. They are tough and resistant to staining which makes them easier to maintain compared to composite veneers. However, they cost more and cannot be repaired. If chipped or broken, they need to be replaced.

Composite Veneers are bonded directly to the prepared tooth during your dental visit whereas porcelain veneers are custom-made by a dental technician in a lab. The advantages of composite veneers include lower cost and the ability to be repaired. However they are more vulnerable to wear and staining.

Can I Get Dental Veneers?

Veneers are perfect for patients whose teeth are naturally yellow or have a grey cast and can’t achieve a white smile with teeth whitening treatment. They are also a great solution if you have teeth that appear too small, uneven, chipped, worn down, have dark stains or are slightly crooked.

If you are looking at dental veneers, you should:

  • Have healthy gums and good periodontal health.
  • Be able to maintain proper oral hygiene, such as brushing and flossing daily.
  • Have a sufficient amount of healthy enamel on your tooth.

We will need to assess your teeth before we can tell you if it is suitable for you to have veneers.

Veneers Appointment- What To Expect?

  • The procedure involves removing some of the tooth enamel to permit placement of the veneer. A mould is then taken of the prepared tooth and sent to the lab and a temporary veneer is placed in the meantime.
  • In the next visit, the veneer is bonded to the tooth with resin cement. We may schedule an additional follow-up visit to check for tissue healing and evaluating aesthetics. Minimal re-contouring might be done if necessary.

Tips To Care For Your Dental Veneers

  • We suggest brushing and flossing just as you would your regular teeth. Proper daily brushing, and use of fluoride toothpaste is important.
  • Consider limiting coffee and other stain-inducing foods.
  • Avoid biting on hard foods to prevent chipping or fracturing of porcelain veneers.
